Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 60 g granulated sugar
  • 220 g unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 kg apples (Pink Lady, Royal Gala, or Fuji)
  • 190 g brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1¼ tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2½ tbsp water
  • 5 tbsp almond flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • Vanilla Ice Cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add water until dough forms.
  2. Chill the dough: Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Make the filling: Peel and slice apples. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter then stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and apple slices until coated.
  4. Roll out the dough: Divide chilled dough into two portions; roll one out for the bottom crust and place it in your pie dish.
  5. Assemble: Pour apple filling into crust; roll out the second portion for the top crust (lattice optional) and seal edges.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle with brown sugar; bake for about 80 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
