  • 2/3 cup whole milk, warm
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the filling: unsalted butter, heavy cream, brown sugar or white sugar, cocoa powder, instant coffee powder, semi-sweet or dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and combine it with sugar and yeast. Let sit until foamy.
  2. Mix in flour, salt, egg, and softened butter to form a dough; knead until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about an hour).
  4. Meanwhile, melt together filling ingredients — butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, cocoa powder, instant coffee powder, and chopped chocolate.
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle, spread filling evenly on top, then roll tightly and cut into pieces.
  6. Allow rolls to rise again for about 30 minutes; preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown; cool slightly before icing.
